Yesterday the Judicial Conference of Australia, the professional association of judges and magistrates, released a statement pointing out errors in the Herald Sun’s reporting of the judgment of Justice Logan, sitting in the Administrative Appeal Tribunal, in relation to the Jagdeep Singh matter.

Today, the Herald Sun has reported, erroneously, that the JCA had “backed” Justice Logan’s decision.  Justice Beech-Jones, the JCA’s President said “It is not the function of the JCA to comment either positively or negatively on individual judgments and we did not do so in this instance.  Our sole purpose in issuing the statement was to correct the errors in the Herald Sun report and that is all our statement did.”
